Welcome to the new normal

The here and now

Until February 2020, millions of people travelled to offices in the UK and across the globe to sit at their desks and log onto their screens, a practise we had all become familiar with and accustomed to.

Then on the 23rd of March as a result of Coronavirus the UK Government instructed us to only travel if absolutely necessary and to work from home unless this was impossible – our world had changed.

Overnight, organisations had to adjust and deliver an environment which would allow their employees to work from home.

So how well prepared were they – Some very well, others with some refinement but sadly many less so with their entire infrastructure reliant upon employees being in the office with access to paper filing only.

The new world order

So what of the future – Whilst it is not predicted that the traditional office will be abandoned entirely, a move to more of a hub environment looks increasingly on the cards.

It appears that many businesses are already discovering the huge benefits associated with remote working from staff morale, increased productivity and the opportunity to significantly reduce their costs traditionally associated with expensive office accommodation.

If businesses are to ready themselves for the new normal it will be essential for them to adopt a properly thought through infrastructure to deliver a cohesive working environment which encompasses, security, compliance and good governance.

Preparing to embrace the future

So, what does it take to make this transition possible?

Recent weeks have seen a huge uptake in platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and the like, whilst these platforms have proved a lifeline in maintaining contact with fellow workers and clients alike, they can only go so far in maintaining business continuity.

The key to working efficiently, securely, compliantly and profitably is without much doubt going to rest on the ability to access and manage information from any location and on any device.

However, accessing information accurately is not in itself enough, the same must be true for workflows and processes critical to ensuring a familiar working environment and perhaps most importantly driving the disciplines required for efficient and safe working – essentially everything managed within a single framework.

The best solutions available underpin all the activities within departments and across the business, be this the routing of invoices or the management of sensitive data such as employee records.
